Day 2: Lonely & Day 3: Expecting the Impossible

This would have been two different posts had blogger not broken down yesterday. Gotta love technology and the internet. Something is always bound to go wrong. Bleh.

Yesterday was an extremely hard day for me. This isn't getting any easier. After the boys were in bed, I was just so lonely. There was nobody for me to text and nobody was on their way over. Nobody was talking sweet to me. I was just alone, watching American Idol.

When I'm alone, I have a huge problem; I think entirely too much. Last night I kept thinking what if he quits on me and changes his mind about us. He has twenty days of time on his hands. He's going to be doing nothing but thinking. Who knows what he'll be thinking about.

Today I have been expecting the impossible. I keep looking at my phone expecting it to go off being a text message from him. I also look on my yahoo messenger, which had him signed in for quite a while. Finally it has him as offline now. I almost unlocked my door earlier around the time he usually came to see me. It's so hard getting so used to hearing from him to nothing. I hate it.

I know it's not that long and thank God for that. If it were any longer than this, I think I'd really lose it. Seventeen days left. I can't wait until he's no longer locked up in a cage. He's not an animal. I miss him so much. I wish I could hear his voice and see his face. I wish this were all over already.

An Update

I feel like I've been a little MIA. Things have been a little crazy around here. I've been sick, which is never fun. Today, I decided to go for an extra long walk. This not only put my being sick to the test, but also my heart. I hate the fact that I am 25 years old with two heart conditions. It sucks! I made it, barely.

Going back to a previous post about my grandfather being sick, I have no good news. I don't know if he's okay. I never will. I talked to my mom and she told me to try calling my grandmother. I did. Well, I didn't even get a hello. Whoever answered listened for a little bit, heart Lil' Bean making baby noises in the background, and hung up. It hurt and it will continue to hurt, but there's nothing I can do. I won't try and reach out again. All I can do is pray for my grandfather and hope God will give me a sign.

Yesterday I took Lil' Bean to the doctor to see if he has colic; he does. He also has jaundice. He is 6 weeks old now. The doctor said we will have to re-visit this in two weeks. On a good note, he is up to 8lbs 5oz. He is gaining well. So, I'm happy about that.

Well, it's time for me to wrap up for the night. Tomorrow is either going to be the worst day or my life or the best. Well, maybe not best; biggest relief. We shall see. I just have to pray and hope that things go my way. I hope God is on my side for this one.

Caprica is new age science fiction with a twist

Caprica is new age science fiction with a twist

Guest post of the week by Ferdinand Livingston

Caprica is a show that is on the SyFy channel. I watch it on satellite tv from www.TVbyDirect.com. The show started out with a good concept, but I think that most of the viewers started to lose interest when they did the break in the middle of the first season. It was a pain waiting for the show to start again, but I like the show so I watched it when it came back on from its mid season break. The show is based in the past, before the earth was populated. The people on the show believe in more than one God and people who only believe in one God are considered rebels. The storyline revolves around a girl named Zoe Greystone, who was blamed for a terrorist act. Th! ere is a virtual world on the show that lots of people go hang out in. Zoe created an avatar and her avatar survived and started to take her place after Zoe was involved in the terrorist attack. Zoe's dad found a way to put Zoe in a robot, so her character was still there, but she was a robot and people did not know that she was in the robot. The show has a really cool concept, but syfy is choosing to cancel the show. I wish they would make a season two, because the show does have lots of fans.

Fashionable Summer Looks For Girls

With less than a month left in school, girls are always looking for the latest styles so they can go out with a bang. This doesn't just include clothing items. Girls also want to have the most fashionable footwear, book bags, and more.

There are many up and coming trends for this summer. As far as footwear is concerned, you may find many girls wearing oasis shoes as well as teva flip flops. The oasis shoes come in a great number of different styles. Among these styles are sneakers, wedges, mary jane's, and many more. Teva flip flops come in a variety of different colors as well as styles.

Aside from footwear, girls also tend to be concerned on how stylish they will look when carrying their books around. The most fashionable book bag is key. Messenger bags for girls are becoming more and more popular. They come in a variety of different colors and styles to fit any look or outfit.

As you can see, there are some great options for the most fashionable footwear and book bags out there. It all depends on what you're looking for. Once you have an idea in mind you can begin looking for something to fit your desires.

Praying For My Daddy Who Raised Me

So, while I was taking a break from working about 10-15 minutes ago; I got nosey. I brought up my Aunt Elaine's facebook page and saw a post from April 30th that said "prayer request for my dad who's in the hospital and my mom who's stressed." I then went to her daughter's page who had made a few posts including: "grandpas in the hospital again....this time he begged to go..... plz dont go just yet gramps :,(,"hes in the hospital, it might be serious this time," and "great.....now im crying, i love you grandpa."

So, a small background. I'll try and keep it short. I was born to my biological mom (Robin) and dad (Michael.) I'll never know the real story about what happened as to why or how I ended up with my father's mom (Kathy) and dad (Dean). Supposedly, my dad was at a bar and my mom was supposed to watch me and she left me with a babysitter who then left me alone and the next morning the garbage man heard me crying and used a neighbor's phone to call the police. The police got in touch with my mom, dad, and my dad's parents. I ended up in foster care and then ultimately went to my dad's parents. My parents parental rights were revoked. I was raised by my grandparents, but was raised to call them mommy and daddy. My dad's sisters became my sisters. My dad, I never knew what to call him. I never called him dad. Anyway, I was raised by my grandparents. Later on in life, I realized some things that were untrue and hurt me a lot. When I was 14 I moved in with my dad and his wife and two sons. I was pretty much chopped liver there. At 17, I moved out. I didn't talk to anyone in his family again until I was 22. I gave my dad and his wife a big chance again and they blew it. They proved they would always be the hateful controllers they always were among other things. I haven't talked to them since. I haven't talked to anyone since. I had a recent issue where I had asked this same Aunt Elaine for pictures of my grandfather because I think my Lil' Bean looks just like him. The outcome wasn't what I had hoped for, but I did ultimately find a picture after going through her wall all the way back to October 2010.

I love my grandfather. He is innocent now in everything I found out. He may have taken part before then, but he doesn't remember. He had a cerebrial aneurism when I was 12. He wasn't the same ever since. I miss him, but when I left my dad's the last time when I was 23; my dad told me to not contact anyone ever again. I will pray for him and pray that he's okay. Aside from the aneurism, he also has heart problems and has for as long as I can remember. So, we'll say at least 20 years. I want to call the phone number I found on whitepages.com, but I'm afraid to. I fear the hostility or rejection I may get. Or maybe I should just send a card? I don't know. I have no idea what to do. I am just sitting here in tears praying for him. I wish I could see him again. I wish he could meet my kids, and DB. I just want to hug him one last time. I want to apologize for all the problems I gave him growing up. I want him to know how much I love him and how I do think about him and the whole family a lot.

I have never been one who could deal with death and sickness well at all. He's only 70 years old. It's not his time. God, please let him live. Give him strength and give him health. My best friend was taken from me far too young in 2009. My Lil' Bean is kind of named after my grandfather and my best friend. His first name is after someone close to my best friend and is similar to my grandfather's name. They begin and end in the same letters. His middle name is my best friend's husband's name, but with a different spelling.

A Formal Apology

Anyone who has been following my site knows I have had some unfortunate experiences lately. Well, I want to apologize not only to Natalie, but to my readers as well. The way I chose to handle things was unprofessional. I was upset, but there was no need to go so public with it. In the end, I wanted one thing that I know I will never get. There's no reason for me to continue harping on it. Things were said back and forth that were uncalled for. So, this is my apology to Natalie and my readers. Blogging is supposed to be fun and this incident, which I know I did not help, kind of took the fun out of it for me. So, I have removed both posts about the issue and I hope it will not continue to affect Natalie, my readers, my blog, or myself. I apologize for my wrongdoings and I am hereby wiping my hands clean from the situation.

What Grinds My Gears: Fake Friends

What really grinds my gears are fake friends. I cannot stand people who pretend to be your friend and act friendly when you're around, but then turn around and talk about you. I also can't stand the ones who just randomly decide to cut you out of their life and refuse to speak to you when you did nothing wrong. I have dealt with my fair share of fake friends and because of all the fake friends I have wasted my time and energy on, I am much more selective on who I call a friend these days. I think the funniest thing is I have all these fake friends from my past who I knew in person and now I have a greater number of trustworthy and true friends whom I currently only know online. I am hoping I can meet them all someday.

Mediterranean Diet: Replacing Butter with Extra Virgin Olive Oil

So, I've begun my adventures with trying out the Mediterranean Diet. It's been alright so far. The food is good and it's easy enough to follow. However, extra virgin olive oil just can't replace butter entirely; at least not for me. I made a pasta dish tonight and the noodles were supposed to be "buttered" using extra virgin olive oil. You season the noodles using garlic and basil, and then you top the pasta with feta cheese. I believe this would have been amazing had I used butter. The first bite made me gag. All I could taste was the extra virgin olive oil. Being able to taste oil like that brought back my memories of castor oil when I was trying to induce labor with Sweet Pea. DISGUSTING! I can't stand the taste of any oil like that anymore. Cooking with olive oil is fine, but buttering noodles with olive oil; not so much. This is just my opinion and others may have a different opinion. All I can say is that when it comes to buttering noodles, I will use my butter thank you very much!

What do you think is the perfect Mother’s Day gift?
I already got my Mother's Day present and I do believe it is perfect. DB got me a white gold necklace with child pendants that have the birthstones of each of the kids. Opal is apparently too soft, so he got the pink tourmaline for Sweet Pea who was born in October. Aquamarine is the March birthstone for Lil' Bean. I love it!

Five Question Friday - 5/6/2011

1. Have you ever had roommates?
Yes, and I hate roommates. I always have and I will never have another one again. The only roommate to this day that I enjoyed having was my very first roommate, Lena. We were two very different people who came from very different worlds. I learned a lot from her. I knew her for 2-3 years before we became roommates. I miss her. Every other roommate I have ever had has been a horrible experience. There was this girl, Natasha, who stole from me every chance she got. Living with my old friend, Bethany, was interesting with all of her issues. Living with my ex-best friend, Brittany, was good until I realized how two-faced she was. She ruined my life and began the ruining of my relationship. Luckily, DB and I have been able to come past that. Living with DB's ex-friends, Sam and James, was also a terrible experience. They were control freaks who loved to use people and never followed through with anything.

2. How many names do you/your children have? (i.e. Prince Charming William Phillip Arthur Louis John JacobJingleheimer-Schmidt)
We're normal, sort of. We have one first, middle, and last name. I know people who give their children more than one middle name and the last name of both parents. That is just too long. DB has two last names and he hates it. He only acknowledges one of them. I want my kids to be able to fit their name on job applications when they grow up. I don't judge people with super long names, it's just not my thing.

3. Did you watch the Royal Wedding?
It was on my TV, but I didn't watch it intently. I was working. As far as I see it, it was just another wedding. I'm sorry, but people aren't going to be watching my wedding on TV. So, why should it be a big deal when others get married? This is just my opinion.

4. What is the messiest room in your house?
My living room is definitely the messiest room. It's a living room/playroom/office. Since I'm not feeling well, it's even worse. My computer and work stuff is no longer on my desk in the back corner, but on the couch and coffee table. Oh well. I'll get it all cleaned up at some point.

5. What is your ideal mothers day?
My idea mother's day is one that I could spend with DB and the kids. I don't care what we do, as long as I have all the loves in my life with me.

What Grinds My Gears: Bad Parents

What really grinds my gears are bad parents. I don't understand how a woman can carry a child for 9 months and still end up being a bad parent. You are supposed to love and care for your child. From the moment you get pregnant, your life will never be all about you again. You can no longer be selfish. Your life is now about your family you have now created.

I can't stand seeing bad parents. I have come across many of them in my time. They made decisions only thinking about themselves. They slept through vital doctor's appointments for their children. They didn't pay any attention to their children. Bath time was an infrequent occurrence in their household. Mealtime consisted of chocolate chip cookies.

I feel like if someone can't be a good parent, they shouldn't be a parent at all. There are some people I see out in public and all I can ask to myself is why? Why did they choose to have children? If it wasn't a choice they consciously made, why didn't they consider adoption? These children deserve so much more than what they're being given. These children are innocent and deserve a good life.

WTF: Breastfeeding Doll?!

So, I'm sitting here watching my American Idol recording from earlier tonight and just as I go to hit fast forward to skip the commercials, one commercial grabs my attention. It was a preview of a story that was on the 10:00pm news. Apparently, there's a breastfeeding doll. The first thought that entered my mind was WTF! The next was, I have to google this.

This Breast Milk Baby by Berjuan Toys comes with a halter top that has flowers where the nipples would be. These flowers have sensors whereas when the doll is brought close to the flowers; makes movements and sounds like a real life breastfed babies. Below is a video I found on YouTube of how this doll works.

Now, I may be a mother of two boys and shouldn't care. However, I would like a girl someday. Aside from that, I just don't think this is an appropriate age-appropriate toy for our young girls of today. It is these types of toys that are forcing our children of today to grow up too quickly. What happened to letting our kids enjoy being kids? There is no need to push them to grow up quicker than they already are. The girl in the demonstration video appears to be around 8 years old. There is no reason why an 8 year old needs to know how to breastfeed or anything about being a mother. She needs to enjoy playing with age-appropriate dolls, riding her bike, swinging on swings, and thinking boys have cooties.

I don't understand why these toy manufacturers think it's okay to make these kinds of toys and gear them towards such young girls. I will teach my children about becoming parents. Once they are pregnant (many, many years from now - provided I have a girl), I will teach them what I know about breast feeding. Their doctors will do the same. A doll at such a young age is not necessary.

When I was in child development in high school, I remember the doll I had to take home. I liked that doll because it showed how difficult it was to have a baby and helped me realize how important it was to wait. Something like that, I can understand. However, promoting our children to grow up and learn the ins and outs of parenthood at such a young age is not.

This is just my opinion. I just don't believe that these toys that promote sex and becoming parents are appropriate. Let kids be kids. Give them toys to play with. Toys. Age-appropriate, good, fun toys.

Why I Want To Homeschool

I was watching the news the other night, this story came on. A young boy is minding his own business when two boys make a plan to attack him. The young boy defends himself to the other two boys when the mother of one of the other two boys gets on the school bus and starts yelling at the boy who was being attacked.

There are so many bullying situations and a lot of violence in schools today. There was Columbine, which was a huge deal. I was living in Virginia when the Virginia Tech incident happened. There are bullies, fights, and murders happening within our schools today. Nowhere is safe. I know I can't protect my kids forever, but I want to protect them for as long as I can.

Aside from the violence that is happening in our schools today, I remember not getting the one on one help I needed growing up in school when I was struggling. I blame the school systems for me still struggling in math. I think had I gotten the help I needed, I would have gotten to understand math much better than I do.

For all of these reasons, I would like to home school. There are many great benefits of homeschooling. My kids will get the one-on-one attention they will need educationally. I will have the ability to cater the curriculum  to their needs. By homeschooling my kids, there will be less opportunity for peer pressure. I will also be able to decide what my kids are exposed to and when. I don't want my kids learning about sex in a public school. That is a parent's job, not a teacher's. There are a ton of homeschooling enrichment activities that I can do with my kids and involve my kids in. Schedules would be more flexible with homeschooling. I can also form a curriculum that compliments our faith, morals, and values.

Now, I do not plan on keeping my kids sheltered away from the world. I plan on having them in activities such as a self defense class, sports, or whatever else they may have an interest in. So, they will still get social skills. I will also find enrichment activities going on with other homeschooling parents in the area. I think homeschooling will be fun and beneficial for all of us. This is something DB and I agreed upon at least 6 months ago. However, when I see stuff like this on the news; it really makes me realize how glad I am that I will be homeschooling my kids.

Foods You Should and Shouldn't Eat While Breastfeeding

As a nursing mother, I know how important it is to eat healthy while nursing. Many new and expectant mothers, however, are unsure what they should change and keep the same when breastfeeding their little one. You want to take in anywhere from 2,500 to 3,000 calories a day. You also want to eat more smaller meals throughout the day, rather than three large meals.

Water is one thing you definitely want to increase. Try drinking 2-3 quarts of water a day. As you are nursing, you will be more thirsty anyway. However, don't drink too much as that can reduce your milk supply.

When you are pregnant, you are told how important folic acid is. Well, the same is true when you are nursing. You can always take a prenatal vitamin or a folic acid pill. However, there are also some foods you can eat when nursing as well. These foods include corn, chick peas, spinach, wheat, and orange juice. Some other vitamins that are also vital to your baby and yourself as you nurse include calcium, zinc, and vitamin A. You can get vitamins to fill the gap, or there are foods you can eat as well. As far as calcium is concerned, while you are nursing you will need 1,200mg of calcium a day. A supplement will probably be needed to reach this goal. However, you can also find calcium in dairy products and uncooked vegetables.Eggs, meat, and oatmeal are good sources of zinc. For vitamin A, you can eat carrots, vegetables, meat, fish, and butter.

While you do want to eat as healthy as you can while breastfeeding, there are certain fruits and veggies that may have a negative effect on your little bundle of joy. As far as veggies go; cauliflower, broccoli, onion, cucumber, celery, peppers, garlic, turnips, and cabbage are known veggies that can make your baby gassy. Also, fruits such as cherries and prunes have a laxative effect, which may also make your baby unhappy. Some other foods that may make your baby reject your milk include chocolate, citrus fruits and juices, spices, strawberries, pineapple, and kiwi.

If garlic does not seem to give your baby gas, give it a shot. Garlic is known to increase milk supply. However, if it gives your baby gas, it is not worth it. So, try it out and if he or she has no gas afterwards, keep it coming. Otherwise, it would be wise to cut back or eliminate your garlic intake.

You want to be cautious of your caffeine intake. While caffeine in moderation is okay, you want to keep in mind that too much caffeine will throw your little one's sleep schedule off track.

Alcohol is a big no-no while you are nursing. However, if you do want to have a drink or two one night; pump out a few bottles prior to drinking. Then, once have finished drinking; pump out your milk and throw it away. Do not nurse for two hours after having your last drink. The old wive's tale that beer increases your milk supply is not true, so please do take this as fact. It's called an old wive's tale for a reason.

You don't necessarily have to change your entire diet because your breastfeeding. You just want to be more aware of what you are eating and any reactions your baby has. Breastfeeding is definitely the best for your baby, so if you can do it; your baby will thank you for it when he or she is older.

Mediterranean Diet

So, I just had Lil' Bean a month ago and I've been on the hunt for a good died and workout regimen. Well, I have been doing my research and I think I have decided on the Mediterranean Diet. I was flipping through the channels on TV the other night and I came across some cooking show about the Mediterranean Diet and everything looked really good.

Well, today I decided to actually do some research about this diet. This diet would be perfect for me for so many reasons. Anyone who knows me, knows all about my heart issues. For those of you who don't, I have a history of pericardial effusion and mitral valve prolapse. The pericardial effusion has been treated twice. What pericardial effusion means, for those who don't know, is I have fluid around my heart. However, like I said; the fluid has been drained twice. I get echo cardiograms periodically to check on the status of it. The mitral valve prolapse at first meant me left valve didn't close properly. Now it doesn't close much at all.

With my heart problems; I get extreme shortness of breath, feeling weak, etc. On top of my heart issues, I am also highly anemic. Prior to have Lil' Bean, I had to have a blood transfusion. They wouldn't allow me to deliver him vaginally because of how much blood I would lose. Before the blood transfusion, my count was at 8. After the transfusion, my count was at 10. Most people have a count of 11.5.

So, why and how would the Mediterranean Diet benefit me with my health issues? Well, the Mediterranean Diet promotes healthy hearts. The Mediterranean Diet not only reduces the chances of heart disease, but also cancer, Parkinson's Disease, and Alzheimer's Disease. If you take a look at the food pyramid below for the Mediterranean Diet, you can get an idea of the food choices available to you if you choose to try out this diet.

The main ideas of the Mediterranean Diet are pretty simple to follow. The main foods to eat include fruits, vegetables, whole grains, legumes, and nuts. You want to replace butter with healthy alternatives such as olive oil and canola oil. You also want to reduce your use of salt to flavor foods and instead use herbs and spices. You want to do your best to limit meals containing red meat to be only a couple of times a month, but try to eat meals with fish and poultry at least twice a week.

When it comes to red wine, it okay for the Mediterranean Diet. However, if you are someone who doesn't drink; sparkling red grape juice is an alternative. The benefit is in the grapes. The grapes contain antioxidants such as transresveratrol and oligomeric proanthocyanidin that lower the chances of heart disease. They keep the blood circulation healthy and prevent blood clots from forming.

As far as dairy products go, you will want to switch to low-fat products such as skim milk, fat-free yogurt, and low-fat cheese. With the Mediterranean Diet, you are not limiting your fat intake. Instead, you are making healthy choices about the types of fat you eat. You want to try and stay away from saturated fats. With the Mediterranean Diet, olive oil is your primary source of fat, which is a monounsaturated fat. Monounsaturated fats can reduce LDL cholesterol levels. So, that's another benefit of the Mediterranean Diet. When choosing your olive oil, virgin and extra virgin olive oils contain the highest levels of antioxidants.

When choosing your fish; mackerel, trout, herring, sardines, albacore tuna, and salmon are all great choices. This is because they all are great sources of omega-3 fatty acids. Omega-3 fatty acids lower triglycerides, decreases blood clots from forming, improve the health of your blood vessels, decrease the chances of sudden heart attacks, and help moderate blood pressure.

When many people think about diets, they think the food will be gross. I don't think that will be the case with the Mediterranean Diet. Just take a look at some of these images below.

I have found enough convincing information on this died on the WebMD and MayoClinic websites to make me want to at least give it a try. I have also been finding some really good sounding recipes on the Eating Well website. So, here's to my new diet in the making. I think tomorrow I will go grocery shopping for the change of diet. I found some great recipes I want to try. I'm actually kind of excited.

What Grinds My Gears: People Who Never Learn

What grinds my gears are people who never learn. You know the type. They constantly ask your advice, and being the good friend that you are; you give it. However, your advice doesn't actually matter. There was really no point in you giving your opinion because they are still going to do what they want to do. They just never learn. They continue to make the same mistakes and then wonder why things are continuing to go wrong for them.

"Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again expecting different results."

These people really do expect different results. They think that each time they make the same decision they made last time that it will have a different outcome. They think that it's the situation each time that makes the end result negative. Never do they think that they could be the problem or maybe the decision they're continuing to make over and over again is wrong.

New Look, New Stories

Woohoo! I just got my new look up, courtesy of Candy! I am in love with it. I know my blog went from being blah to being scrappy and now this. I think I'll stick with this for a while. I love all the bright colors. She did exactly what I asked her to do. I told her bright and colorful; she produced bright and colorful! She did an amazing job. I was so happy with how she did the navigation bar as a drop-down menu. I really like my blog now. It's so me, but also really organized. Thank you Candy!

I have also finally gotten back into my groove of writing. I have written two short stories over the past few days. I've started uploading my stuff to a website called Inkblot as well. I need to upload my older stuff there as well. I put some of my older stuff here. It's funny how your writing style changes slightly over time. Just a few months ago, I didn't know everything I know now and I'm sure in time, I will know even more. I learn things pertaining to writing all the time. I love to write and I have tons of ideas inside my head. I love being able to put them to good use. I just hope that one day I am good enough to get noticed and get published. For now, I'll just continue doing what I love; writing.

I'm beginning to toy with the idea of purchasing a .com. We'll see. I need more followers before I put out the $10 I think. I know it's just $10, but to me $10 is $10. If I'm not getting viewers and followers, I figure why bother wasting the money. So, we'll see where things go.

Well, I stayed up much later than I had expected. It is definitely past my bedtime. So, I am off to bed now. I am hoping for a better day tomorrow. I was kind of "off" today. Goodnight my friends.

Short Story: Silenced

Silenced
by Nikki Layne

Silenced. That was what Vicky had become. She gone through a lot of ups and downs with her boyfriend, Justian. They had been together for three years. They were between rock bottom and happily ever after depending on the day of the week.

When Vicky and Justian first got together, they were a very happy couple. Many people warned her it was just a honeymoon period, but she didn't listen. She had never been in love before, but she felt like Justian was the one; she loved him.

Vicky and Justian were the perfect match just looking at them together. Vicky was a thin girl who was on the short side, standing at 5'2. She was a beautiful brunette with tanned skin and big, brown eyes. Justian was slender and only a few inches taller than Vicky. He had dirty blonde hair and the brightest blue eyes.

Aside form how Vicky and Justian looked together, you could tell how in love they were. Justian held her hand everywhere they went, opened doors, and pulled out chairs. He was a first-class gentleman. He made Vicky really feel loved. He held her up on a pedestal. Vicky had never experienced a relationship like it before. She couldn't get enough of his love. She felt like a princess.

Justian was a United States Soldier. Six months into their relationship, he deployed to Iraq. Vicky had never dealt with a deployment before of someone she loved. She did her best to remain strong as she helped him prepare. She made sure he had everything he needed and she went with him to wait on the buses that would take him to the nearby Airforce base that would fly him to Iraq. Vicky never cried harder in her life than when she watched the buses pull away.

While Justian was deployed, their relationship was tested in more ways than Vicky would have ever thought possible. At first, Justian called her as much as he possibly could. Vicky heard from him in some way at least once a week, whether by phone, email, or mail.

Four months into the deployment, Justian got to come home for his R&R. During the time he was home, things changed. Justian was a different person. He wanted to try new things and Vicky allowed it; for the most part. She just wanted him to be happy, so she let him try what he wanted. She had hoped it was all a phase and things would go back to normal soon.

It started with Justian wanting to drink. A lot. He was buying bottles of liquor and cases of beer each night. Vicky was guilty of drinking with him. At first she thought it was fun. After a while, though, it got old. Apparently, it got old for Justian too. Then, he decided he wanted to smoke a little marijuana. The drinking and smoking wasn't too terribly bad. Vicky was alright with it. Justian then decided he wanted to try something much harder. He wanted to try ecstasy. He thought it would be a good way to have crazy, intimate fun with Vicky. Vicky knew that her co-worker Juliet had connections for it. So, Vicky got in touch with her. She just wanted Justian to be happy. Justian and Vicky went to pick up the ecstasy. Juliet wanted to do it with them and have a good time. Vicky had no idea how bad of an idea this was until later.

The ecstasy hit Justian pretty quickly. Vicky felt some minor effects of it, but nothing to the extent that Justian was feeling. Justian sat in the middle of Vicky and Juliet on the couch. Vicky could not believe her eyes as her heart began to race and dropped into the pit of her stomach. Justian began rubbing Juliet's leg. The rage Vicky had inside were indescribable. She was at a loss for words. She knew she had become the babysitter for a couple of adults for the night. She drank as much water as she could and ate some crackers to try and find her sobriety. Finally, Vicky was able to find some words.

“Just what did you think you were doing,” Vicky asked Justian?
“What are you talking about,” Justian replied rather confused.
“What? You don't realize what you just did? You just rubbed Juliet's leg! Have you forgotten who your girlfriend is? It's not her, but by all means if you want her to be, I'm sure you'll make a fine pair,” Vicky yelled at him!
“I'm sorry,” he said as he began to cry. “I didn't mean to,” he said.

Vicky went up to bed and cried. She didn't want to witness anything else. She didn't feel like he cared. As far as she was concerned, he had tried to cheat on her right in front of her eyes. She knew it was the drugs, but she still took it hard. She laid in bed all alone and cried herself to sleep that night. She hugged her pillow wishing she had never allowed him to take ecstasy or do any of the other out of the ordinary things she allowed him to do.

She never expected him to do anything like this. She never thought he would make her feel this way. She just hoped that in time she would be able to forgive him. She hoped that it didn't ruin their relationship forever beyond repair.

Vicky woke up the next morning and Juliet was gone. In the back of her mind, she questioned if anything else happened after she went up to bed, but she refused to question it. She felt as thought she knew enough and that anything else would destroy her and their relationship, so she never asked.

The rest of R&R was not the same. Vicky was pretty upset about everything. She refused to sleep in the same bed with Justian until she could forgive him. They fought for the remainder of R&R. The great relationship they once had, was gone. Vicky still loved Justian, but she needed some time to sort everything out and get over it on her own.

R&R ended and Justian went back to finish the rest of his tour in Iraq. Justian and Vicky talked much less this time around. If Vicky asked for Justian to call her, he made it seem like it was too much to ask. He never wanted to get online. It was almost as if Justian wanted to ignore Vicky's existence. Vicky wanted to talk so they could get their relationship back to what it was before the happenings of R&R. Justian just didn't seem like he wanted any part of it.

A couple weeks after Justian went back to Iraq, Vicky found out she had gotten pregnant over R&R. They were expecting. Vicky couldn't have been more excited. Justian seemed happy about it, but still didn't seem the same.

Vicky felt like something was really off with Justian. She had a feeling he had found someone new. She couldn't have been more right. He had another girlfriend on the east coast of the United States. Justian had never even met this girl, but he was telling her how much he loved her. Vicky found all of this out by logging into his email. She spent that night in tears. She couldn't believe he would cheat on her, at least not sober. She felt worthless. She couldn't believe how easily he replaced her without even leaving her. She sobbed until she couldn't sob any longer. Then she sent Justian an email.

Justian,

How could you do this to me? To us? To our family? We're about to have a child and you're off finding sluts online to leave me for! You could have at least had the decency to leave before you went off hooking up with girls online! But I get it. Have fun.

-Vicky

There was a lot more Vicky wanted to say. She just didn't see the point in putting so much effort into an email that may never get a reply. Vicky had other things to worry about, like how she was going to raise a child on her own and what she would tell him or her about Justian.

A couple of months went by before she heard from Justian. She never expected to hear from him again. She checked her email consistently after everything happened hoping to hear from him, but after a couple of weeks she had given up hope. So, when she did finally get an email from him, she was in shock.

Vicky,

I'm really sorry. I don't know why I did what I did. I was stupid. I just hope that maybe one day you can forgive me and we can be a family. How is your pregnancy going? I hope to hear back from you, but if not I understand.

-Justian

Vicky couldn't believe it. She still loved him. So, she of course took him back. Unfortunately, this time around they argued a lot. Justian spent most of his time yelling at Vicky telling her how she did everything wrong and that it was her fault he cheated both times. He said she wasn't being passionate enough and wasn't supplying what he needed. Vicky did all she could to change this. She wanted to be able to make Justian happy. She loved him so much and never wanted to lose him.

Unfortunately, it was only a matter of time before Justian stopped giving Vicky a chance to change. This time, instead of Justian replacing Vicky with one girl; he had at least ten lined up all over the United States. Vicky was completely distraught. She felt like no matter how hard she tried to make him happy it didn't matter to him. This time she sent him an even shorter email.

Justian,

I know. I'm going back home.

-Vicky

Vicky moved back home to be closer to her family. She knew she'd need some kind of support after she had the baby. She obviously wasn't going to get it from Justian.

Vicky thought about Justian all the time. She was still in love with him. She could never let go of that. She always thought he was the one. She just wished things didn't change like they did over R&R.

She didn't hear from Justian until was back from Iraq for good. Vicky was five months pregnant. It was a boy. She had already picked out his name. Ethan Riley. Justian had claimed he was done cheating and truly wanted to work things out. Vicky believed him. The problem was, they now lived on opposite coasts. Vicky hoped they could work over the phone until she had the baby. There was no way she was going to move again in the middle of her pregnancy.

Finally, Vicky had reached the end of her pregnancy. Her water had broken. The time had come for her to meet her little boy. Unfortunately, the military wouldn't let Justian be there because they weren't married. Vicky sent him a text message letting him know, but she never heard back. She told her mom to continue trying to get ahold of him. Half an hour went by and Vicky's mom came back with a look on her face like something was wrong.

“What's wrong mom,” asked Vicky?
“Nothing. I'll tell you later,” replied her mom.

Vicky had a really quick labor. Forty minutes went by and Ethan Riley was born at 1:09am. He weighed six pounds and was nineteen and half inches long. He was beautiful with dirty blonde hair and fair skin.

“He looks just like Justian, mom,” Vicky said excitedly!
“Yeah,” replied her mom softly.
“Take a picture of him, mom. I want to send a picture to Justian,” said Vicky.

Vicky's mom had taken the picture and Vicky sent it Justian's phone.

“I can't wait until Justian can meet our little boy! I can't believe we made such a sweet, little baby,” Vicky said absolutely beside herself.
“Vicky, we need to talk,” said her mom.
“Okay. What's up,” asked Vicky?
“Justian answered his phone earlier, but not knowingly,” her mom began.
“What do you mean,” Vicky asked puzzled?
“There was a girl moaning in the background. I'm sorry, but I don't think Justian is the guy you think he is,” said her mom.

Vicky held Ethan close to her as she cried. She kissed him on his forehead and prayed he would grow up to be a respectable young man. Vicky sent Justian a text message. She kept it short and sweet.

Have fun. I delivered our son just fine. Not that you care.

Vicky raised Ethan on her own for three months. She didn't hear from Justian once. She mailed him pictures and emailed him videos. Not once did she even get a thank you. She got nothing.

Then one day UPS delivered a box. Vicky wasn't expecting anything. It was a ton of clothes and toys for Ethan. At the bottom of the box was an envelope with “Vicky” written on it. The box was from Justian. The letter was seven pages long. Justian was begging for another chance. He apologized for everything he had done. He had included plane tickets and a check for moving costs for her and Ethan.

Vicky being who she was, accepted. She loved Justian more than he knew. She wanted to be a family with him and their son. She hired movers and was on a plane in under a month.

When Vicky and Ethan got to Washington, things were great. It was like her relationship with Justian went back to how it was before R&R. She couldn't have been happier. She didn't find any signs of him cheating or anything. Over the next three months, she began putting more trust into Justian then she ever thought she would again.

Justian seemed genuinely happy to be with Vicky again. He was extremely sweet and loving towards her. He was also loving being a daddy. He loved the time he got to spend with Ethan when he wasn't working. They were a happy family. Ethan was getting big. Justian and Vicky were beginning to talk about the possibilities of getting married. Vicky couldn't have been happier than when she found out Justian wanted to marry her. Things were going really well. Vicky had almost forgotten everything they had gone through.

Then Justian started drinking and became a bigger monster than ever before. He would drink and tell Vicky how she wasn't good enough. He would break her down and belittle her. He called her fat and told her how all the girls he cheated on her with were by far better looking than her. This became a weekly occurrence at minimum. Vicky hoped it would end soon and he would start to make her feel good about herself again. That's not what happened, though. Instead, things go worse.

Vicky began telling him to please not talk down to her. That was her first mistake. Justian was very angry and pushed her up against the wall.

“I am the boss,” Justian yelled at Vicky! “You don't say a word.”

Justian had never laid a finger on Vicky before. She had no idea where this was coming from. That night she held Ethan closer. She made him promises she knew she would never keep.

“We'll get out of here soon. You won't have to see mommy cry for much longer,” Vicky cried as she rocked her baby boy.

The tears rolled down her face as she dreamed of better days. She remembered when her and Justian were so in love. She remembered when things were truly good. She didn't know if things were ever going to go back to that. She hoped and prayed that they would.

A few weeks later, Justian came home belligerent. He was more drunk than Vicky had ever seen him. He began yelling at Vicky.

“You ruined my life! I had dreams of joining special forces, but now that I have you and a baby I can't,” he yelled at her! “That was the one thing I looked forward to in my career and you took that away from me! I hate you! I hate you and I hate this family!”

Vicky buried her head in her pillows on the bed as she cried. His words hurt her. She couldn't believe this was how he felt. She felt awful. She thought this was what he wanted. She thought he wanted her and wanted to have a family with her.

As Vicky was crying she felt Justian sitting on the bed. He was crying. So, she went to console him. She laid closer to him.

“Everything will be okay,” she tried comforting him.
“Everything will not be okay,” he yelled back! “Leave me alone! I hate you! Get away from me! I hate everything that you are!”

Vicky continued crying and then blurted out words she had no idea what the repercussions would be.

“If you hate me so much, why don't you just kill me,” Vicky asked?
“Fine,” Justian yelled!

Justian got on top of Vicky and chocked her. It felt like hours. She felt helpless as she begged for him to get off of her. She prayed as she tried kicked him off of her. Finally, Justian got off of her. Vicky couldn't even think straight. She ran to the bathroom and locked the door. She called the police while she sat on the floor contemplating suicide. The only thing talking her out of taking her own life was her son, Ethan. Ethan meant everything to her and she never wanted him to grow up not knowing her. She never wanted to be without him.

The police came and Justian went to jail for about a month. After he got out, he started trying to get better. He admitted that Iraq had changed him. He quit drinking entirely and started attending Alcoholics Anonymous. He also got himself counseling to try and really work on himself. As he was doing all of these things, Vicky wondered if he was capable of changing. Vicky was scared of him. She tried not to be because she knew how great he could be too, but she also knew how much of a monster he could be as well.

Justian contacted Vicky by mail. He sent her a letter being extremely apologetic and admitting all of his wrongdoings. He wanted an opportunity to make it all up to her and show her her would be different. Vicky didn't really know what to think. She still loved him. She knew she always would, but she just wasn't sure about giving him another chance. Every second chance she gave him, he broke her heart again. This last time he shattered her whole world. However, she loved him. She wanted to believe he could change. She gave him another chance.

For a few weeks, Justian was great. He was loving, calm, and caring. Vicky struggled still, though. Anytime he would touch her neck, whether with a kiss or a massage, she got scared. She had her guard up. She couldn't help it. The night he choked her, it changed her life forever.

Things went really well for a while. However, then his anger came back. He would pick arguments with Vicky for the littlest things. Vicky just wanted to be with him and wanted to make him happy. So, anything he was upset about, she did her best to change. He even got a bit controlling. He didn't want her talking to anyone. One night he found out she was talking to someone, a female friend. He got extremely angry and said he was leaving. Vicky had begged him to stay. He pushed her against the wall.

Vicky went back to the night he choked her. She got scared. She ran to the other side of the house, knocking chairs down along the way.

“Leave,” she yelled!
“I'm sorry,” he said. “Please. I'm sorry. I didn't mean to.”
“You need to leave. I can't do this again. Leave please,” she said.
“I don't want to, but I will,” he said. “Text me later if you want to talk, but I won't expect you to.”

Vicky texted him later than night.

I still love you. I'm sorry.

Vicky was always sorry. She blamed herself for everything. She felt like every problem that they had was her fault. Justian and her relationship continued on that way. He continued talking down to her, making it so she had zero self-esteem left. She was never good enough for him. She wasn't pretty, smart, thin enough for him. He had really high expectations and she just couldn't fulfill them.

One day Justian had really broken Vicky down. He told her everything that was wrong with her. She did things the wrong way, at the wrong time. She wasn't the type of mother he had imagined for his children. He got mad at her for apologizing. He got even more upset when she cried. He let her know every reason why she wasn't good enough and also made her realize that she never would be.

Vicky stopped. She stopped everything. She stopped talking to Justian. She only replied. She realized that nothing she said or did would change anything. She knew that the arguments would keep coming. She just felt so small in a world so big. She had big dreams for her future with Justian. She loved him, but he had belittled her to the point where she lost her voice. She wouldn't dare say things that would upset him. She gave out very short replies to him.

Justian didn't seem to notice or even seem to care. He just continued to belittle her. However, he stopped getting anything out of Vicky. She cried silently inside of her head. She focused on their son and on herself. She heard what he said, but stopped listening. She lost her voice. It was gone.

Vicky continued living on that way. She decided maybe it was best. Justian and Vicky were together, but they weren't. There was no communication, only one-sided communication from Justian. Vicky didn't talk to anyone except their son. Justian won. She felt like this was everything he aimed to accomplish. She was hurt. She was distraught. She was silenced.

What Grinds My Gears: Employers Who Lie

What grinds my gears are employers who lie. I recently bid on a contract on oDesk. It was for writing articles. The employers budget was $70. So, I bid $63. That would have given me $60 after oDesk fees. I got the contract and then the employer switched tunes. He no longer needed 20 articles, he needed 5. He was no longer going to pay me $63, he was going to pay me $5. They were no longer supposed to be 300 words each, but 500-600. So, he wanted me to write 5 500-600 word articles for $1 each. I was not happy. However, I had already entered the contract.

I do not appreciate being lied to. I find it to be very unprofessional when an employer can't be honest about what they're looking for in the first place. They promise more and then once you're in the contract, they give you significantly less. I have only dealt with this issue three times in my time on oDesk. All three times the employers were from the Philippines. So, from now on I don't think I will be accepting any contracts from employers in the Philippines.

I just want honesty from the start. I want to know exactly what will be expected of me and what I will be paid prior to entering a contract. I don't think I'm asking too much. I just want a proper employer-contractor relationship.
